Paulina is an 11-year-old girl who lives with her grandmother, Dona Cacilda, in a house surrounded by a sandy yard in a peripheral neighborhood of Maputo, Mozambique. During a game with neighborhood friends, she hides in a hole dug where household trash is thrown, certain that she will win there. But from an initially repulsive place, the hiding place ends up becoming the perfect chrysalis where Paulina’s transformation will take place, culminating in a victory that will be, above all, over herself.
